These sweet religious charms count among my favorite varieties of jewelry. Originally produced as souvenirs of Valfleury, a pilgrimage site south of Lyons, France. Pilgrims have journeyed to this region since the year 800, when a statue of Mary and Jesus was discovered there, situated next to a blooming bush on Christmas Eve. Produced in plated metal (likely silver over brass) these medals are both a poignant and economic reminder of the journey their wearers took. The face of the pendant features a profile of Mary set within a scalloped border. The reverse features an image of Our Lady of Valfleury, and the French words, "Notre-Dame De Valfleury P.P.N." Paired with an 18” sterling silver paperclip chain, which fastens with a spring ring style clasp.
