This retro-era collar necklace features a buckle style motif and an unusual bricklane chain pattern fashioned from fluid, interlocking links. It was manufactured by Kreisler, an American jewelry company which was founded in the early 1900s and operated until the 1970s, having a women's jewelry division for a short time, beginning in 1948. This piece was designed to be worn high on the neck as a choker-style necklace, but I have found it can also be looped twice around the wrist and worn as a bracelet, should you choose - see photos for details. The chain is fashioned from gold-filled metal and has tremendous flexibility, fastening at two points - the buckle, which unlatches and latches securely, and a hidden hook at the end of the belt which keeps the piece neatly in place. For reference, my neck measures just over 12” around. I believe this piece could accommodate a neck of up to 13.5”.

What is “gold-filled?” Gold-filled jewelry is higher quality than gold-plated and lower cost than solid (alloyed) gold. Typically, gold-filled jewelry is required to have a 1/20th (or 5%) weight in gold (usually 14k,) which is affixed/bonded to all exterior portions of the jewelry item (which usually has a brass, or sometimes copper, core.) Gold-plated jewelry has no such standards and as a result usually involves a much thinner coating of gold. Gold-filled jewelry can last a lifetime without showing signs of wear and makes for excellent and durable everyday-wear pieces.
