Pearl and Diamond Earrings
Pearl and Diamond Earrings
Sometimes we encounter a piece of jewelry that allows for a bit of detective work! These earrings are fashioned from two distinct vintage and antique elements which were married together in perfect harmony. 14 karat gold post elements feature buttercup settings that each hold a round brilliant diamond. Below this, an antique claw style setting cradles a larger round white pearl with violet overtones and good luster. The earrings are complete with a pair of 14k gold friction backs.
The elements in these earrings likely originated in other pieces of finished jewelry. The diamonds were from a vintage jewel, which we can discern from the style of the setting as well as the cut of the diamonds. The pearls and their setting are of older origin, also evident by their design and setting. There are flat edges at the back of the pearls' gold claw settings that might have originally held screw-back style posts. Fashion trends come and go, of course, and it warms my heart when jewelry owners are thoughtful and caring in reimagining and reinventing their jewelry (and when they work with jewelers and goldsmiths who do an artful job of executing this vision.) The work which was done to craft these earrings anew was sensible and careful and they are ready for another lifetime of love.
