A pendant necklace featuring an 18 karat gold pendant depicting a Viking ship. The pendant is three-dimensional, showing all sides of the ship, its sail, mast, oar locks and drake (dragon head figure at the bow.) The pendant hangs on a gold-filled cable chain, which fastens with a spring ring style clasp. Ships like these were sailed by Viking sailors from Scandanavia to numerous ports around Europe and Asia beginning in the Viking Age and lasting until the Middle Ages. These ships were used for both military and trade purposes. Vikings also established an economy wherein silver and gold were traded as forms of currency. In general, ships as symbols can represent journeys, symbols of faith, discovery, exploration and the afterlife.
