These handsome scarab bracelets are a terrific example of Egyptian revival jewelry which was wildly popular in the mid-20th century. This bracelet consists of eight carved scarabs set in a row with two links between each. Scarabs are symbols of transformation, protection, renewal and rebirth. These gems are cabochon shaped with carved details on the front and reverse sides; they include: rock crystal (quartz,) green chalcedony, tiger's eye, unakite, rhodochrosite, blue chalcedony, carnelian and bloodstone scarabs. The bracelet is fashioned from gold-filled metal and fastens with a spring ring style clasp, with an additional safety chain that also fastens with a spring ring style clasp.

What is “gold-filled?” Gold-filled jewelry is higher quality than gold-plated and lower cost than solid (alloyed) gold. Typically, gold-filled jewelry is required to have a 1/20th (or 5%) weight in gold (usually 14k,) which is affixed/bonded to all exterior portions of the jewelry item (which usually has a brass, or sometimes copper, core.) Gold-plated jewelry has no such standards and as a result usually involves a much thinner coating of gold. Gold-filled jewelry can last a lifetime without showing signs of wear and makes for excellent and durable everyday-wear pieces.

More details:

20cm (just under 8”) long around wrist, 19mm wide, cabochons are approximately 6.5mm deep.

Very good condition.

The rhodochrosite (banded pink) gem appears to have had a rough edge prior to when it was set in the metal frame, which is just visible when examined closely. See photos for detail.
