In 1969, men walked for the first time on the moon. Apollo 11 landed on the surface of the moon with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, who uttered the famous words, “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.” This scientific achievement, felt around the world, was commemorated in this darling gold pendant, which is a three dimensional depiction of a round, heavily cratered moon. Complete at the top are a pair of moon boot footprints! Should you prefer, you can wear the footprints facing out or concealed, depending on which direction you orient the necklace. This pendant is quite heavy, made of solid or semi-solid gold. It was fashioned from two cast halves which are soldered together. The solder line is evident, with a seam that bisects the moon. In my opinion this adds to the piece’s charm. It is clearly one which was sentimentally and lovingly designed and crafted. Whether you are a scientist, astronomer, or someone who feels a deep connection to the moon, this pendant is a rare find and an incredible memento of a historic scientific and human achievement. The pendant hangs from a large jump ring on a gold-filled cable chain, which fastens with a spring ring style clasp.
