French Taurus Zodiac Pendant Necklace

A lustrous vintage, never-worn deadstock pendant by French jewelry maker FIX. Featuring an asymmetric relief of a horned bull and the outline of a globe within a rectangular, beveled frame. A golden crescent moon shaped bail is linked above (bail features a maker’s mark for “FIX” on the back side.) The relief is of a high polish while the backdrop and reverse of the pendant are both a lightly textured matte luster. I love this piece because it is incredibly evocative of the David Webb and Van Cleef and Arpels zodiac/astrological pendant series. Comes on an 18” gold-filled chain.

What is “gold-filled?” Gold-filled jewelry is higher quality than gold-plated and lower cost than solid (alloyed) gold. Typically, gold-filled jewelry is required to have a 1/20th (or 5%) weight in gold (usually 14k,) which is affixed/bonded to all exterior portions of the jewelry item (which usually has a brass, or sometimes copper, core.) Gold-plated jewelry has no such standards and as a result usually involves a much thinner coating of gold. Gold-filled jewelry can last a lifetime without showing signs of wear and makes for excellent and durable everyday-wear pieces.
