This handsome ring features a striking, elongated oval shaped bloodstone cabochon, bezel set in a yellow gold setting. The central bloodstone is beautifully proportioned with a nice size and domed top surface. The gold of the setting has a lovely rosy hue to it, common in antique gold jewelry. The ring has slightly sloping, graceful shoulders that taper to a narrow, half-round band. The back of the gallery has an open side, revealing more of the gem’s beautiful hematite (red) inclusions. Bloodstone is a member of the agate family, a “cousin” (if you will) of carnelian, jasper, agate, onyx and sardonyx. The “blood” in bloodstone is caused by iron oxide inclusions in the body of the gem.
