Banded Agate and Gold Drop Earrings

These earrings are absolute stunners! During the Victorian era, hardstone jewels carved from varieties of banded agate and sardonyx were all the rage. This pair is beautifully designed, with two stone “drops” carved in an elongated manner, displaying a beautiful range of shades of red, orange and white, featuring layered colors that are naturally occurring in this gem species. The orientation and design is very thoughtful. Each drop has a golden cap in the shape of an ivy leaf, which connects to a stirrup-shaped finding that dangles below a golden post, complete with gold friction backs. The post elements are likely newer additions to this pair of earrings; a modern and sensible addition that makes them ready for a second lifetime of wear.
