Antique Opal and Gold Ring

A rainbow is swimming in this gorgeous antique opal ring! A beautifully proportioned opal cabochon is centered with cardinal prongs (north, south, west and east) in an 18k white gold setting. The opal features a transparent orange body, typical of Mexican jelly opals, with a “contra luz” color flash seen when the gem interacts with light. The color play is astounding, with every color of the rainbow ignited within the body of the opal, having painterly brush-stroke like patterns. This ring hails from the 1920s and has been tenderly well-cared for in its lifetime. It is in wonderful condition and ready for a new owner. Central opal cabochon measures 11.0mm tall and 8.0mm wide and weighs 1.53 carats (calculated by measurement.) Setting rises 7.7mm off the finger. At back of ring, narrowest part of ring shank measures 1.8mm.
