Antique Agate and Gold Ring
Antique Agate and Gold Ring
A graceful Victorian-era ring featuring a central elongated oval-shaped cabochon of agate, set in 10 karat yellow gold. The agate is translucent, with a tan body color and a moonstone-esque sheen which gives it an almost otherworldly quality. Agate is a variety of chalcedony (a member of the quartz family) that often features inclusions which grew in the body of the gem as it was forming. Agate inclusions are fun because they are often evocative of natural symbols or elements; in this case, this one reminds me of a vantage looking from one shore of a lake to the other side. What do you see? The stone is set in a bezel setting, connecting to the ring shank via forked shoulders, each having a slight curl at the end, that cradle the bezel setting gently on each side.
